Do I Need Professional Make-Up For My Senior Session?

Oh, what a very great amazing question. And it seems too often be THE question when it comes to senior girl photos. They have the outfits generally locked in, and even probably location ideas (I mean really who doesn’t love tall grasses and wildflowers) but that one lingering question is…Do I have to have my make up done professionally? In short no, you don’t have to do anything you don’t want to do. I have tons of seniors who are very adequate at highlighting, contouring, and applying there cover up and primer in a way that is just light handed enough to create an even quality and a beautiful look on camera. However, that is actually quite a harder task than most people think, especially when you add in Wisconsin summer heat and humidity into the mix.

So here are my reasons (as the creator and editor of your images) why I think YES! You should in fact schedule that professional make up for your session!

Professional makeup artists know how to make your make up last. They use a primer that sticks and helps your make up last even through the heat and humidity of a Wisconsin summer. See this photo here, it was a humid 97 degrees this day. No easy feat for any makeup to stay on through….but just look at that finish!

2. They know how to create the perfect matte finish. In photography this is extremely important. Photographers use the available light and added light to take photos, and what does light do on shiny makeup? It shines and reflects!! AHHH, No we don’t want shiny foreheads and reflecting cheeks from too much highlighter! Again making that makeup last through the heat and applying the correct finish is going to come across beautiful in your images.

3. They know all the tricks to covering acne correctly, you know the way that makes it actually appear as if it isn’t there. We tend (us nonprofessionals) to use make up in a way to cover up our spots that kind of adds to the spot and almost highlights the area. You may think I’m crazy, but in fact trained Makeup artists do know how to create a beautiful finish even with covering up acne and this translates to a beautiful flawless face in your images. Look at the beautiful matte and flawless finish created here in these images. Of course editing is a part of the process, but her makeup absolutely made a difference when it came to her finished product!

4. Finally, even though I know the list could go on and on, you are buying outfits, traveling to neat locations, spending money on an absolutely capable photographer, and ultimately going to spend money on prints and albums and wall art of these beautiful photos. You have already invested in the process. Adding makeup is a simple way to help make that flawless finish you’re dying for, and it is an absolutely fun pampering experience!
